Curated by Pallavi Sharma (Ph.D.) 15 October -15th November 2021 Artist Reception : October 23, 4 pm to 6 pm Inner Eye Arts at 2306 Jasper Hill Drive, San Ramon, CA 94582 The show brings together artworks of eminent printmaker Padmashri Shri Shyam Sharma from India. “Charaiveti” is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘keep walking’, keep progressing to attain a higher self. Sharma's innovative printmaking techniques combined with his introspective landscapes create a visual delight for its viewers. It showcases the artist's desire to dig deeper into the realms of the unknown, an aspiration that he finds can be realized by looking within. Artist Bio Born in 1941, Shyam Sharma grew up in Govardhan, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and studied Fine Arts at Lucknow Art College, India. He was a professor at Patna College of Arts and Crafts and served as principal of the college. Sharma has worked in various mediums such as glass and canvas however gained a huge appreciation for his prints specifically his woodcuts. He has also written and published eight books on art and literature and published numerous essays and articles in art journals and magazines. Sharma has received many awards such as the International Print Biennial- Netherlands and National Award (Lalit Kala Academy), and Padmashri from the government of India (2020) to name a few. |
