Curatorial note

Inspired by the poem of Noble Laurette Rabindra Nath Tagore Inner Eye Arts presents the visual art showcase titled “Voices of Freedom” by a group of artists from Asian and Asian diaspora, reflecting on the diverse perspectives on freedom in relation to justice, decolonial practices.  It explores the deep connection between creativity and freedom and aims to bring forth works which foster new ideas and challenge established norms, expand our knowledge to understand our histories, communities, and imagine new pathways to the future.  The selected works by diverse array of artists intends to take our viewers on an introspective journey so that they can critically think about ways to create systems that are just and equitable.
The show will include a collaborative community art project by Pallavi Sharma to facilitate creative engagement and generate a visual discourse on the subject.

Freedom
-by-Rabindranath-Tagore

Freedom from fear is the freedom I claim for you, my Motherland! – fear, the phantom demon, shaped by your own distorted dreams;
Freedom from the burden of ages, bending your head, breaking your back, blinding your eyes to the beckoning call of the future;
Freedom from shackles of slumber wherewith you fasten yourself to night’s stillness, mistrusting the star that speaks of truth’s adventurous path;
Freedom from the anarchy of a destiny, whose sails are weakly yielded to blind uncertain winds, and the helm to a hand ever rigid and cold as Death;
Freedom from the insult of dwelling in a puppet’s world, where movements are started through brainless wires, repeated through mindless habits; where figures wait with patient obedience for a master of show to be stirred into a moment’s mimicry of life.
