About the show:
“Dhai Akhar: Seeded in Love,” aims to artistically amplify voices of Asian Americans and African Americans. Their combined imagery will create a space to honor the power of radical love as stated by present-day social commentator, essayist, and poet Bell Hooks. It will feature Artists whose Art resonates healing and transformation, an important step in illuminating the long-standing history of African-Asian Solidarity. These actions result in life nurturing futures.
The title of the exhibit is inspired by the works of the medieval Indian Saint poet Kabirdas who believed in love as revolutionary social practice. In one of the couplets composed in vernacular Hindi, he writes
“Dhai akhar prem ka padhe so pandit hoye.”
“One who reads the word love becomes wise.”
Inspired by his works the showcase urges inclusion, acceptance, and equity for all, standing firmly against the instigation of hate and violence in our community.
